AMVETS Riders Post 57

and Veteran Families

Our first annual Poker Run held on July 17th at Post 57 was an AMVETS post-to-post run. It was well attended by members and guests making the day a fun time for all.
We started the day at Post 57, Harper Woods with registration starting about 11:00. At noon, the group headed out for Post 121 St. Clair Shores. The roads were under construction, so we decided to turn our motorcycles into trail bikes. We got through the mess just fine and quenched our thirsts for a bit.
Next we started our engines and headed up Jefferson for a spell then opened the bikes up on I-94 running up to Post 52 New Baltimore. Big Horn and Large headed up the group and road at a nice pace. Post 52 welcomed us with a natural bike wash and plenty of libations.

After we dried our bikes from the rain, the group headed up to Post 72 New Haven. Don't know for sure if someone told DH to blow it out her exhaust, but the pipes were found at the side of the road! No one was hurt but her bike was the loudest! New Haven was the farthest point of the day so we made sure to take on lots of fluids.
We screwed up our courage and intestinal fortitude and braved the interstate to Post 29 Mt. Clemens. The pack was tight and everyone had a good time on the stretch.
Finally got back to Post 57 and had dinner and the winners of the poker hand. DH won the poker and was kind enough to make sure everyone had a drink. Thanks, DH!
The run was well attended and our coffer was filled a little more for the veterans. We have plans for the vets for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The next poker run will be throughout the community and hopefully we will spread the word more about AMVETS Riders 57. Thanks to all that made the event very successful!
Our newest member, Tab Martin has joined Post 57 Riders Group this month and has made a splash.
Tab has graciously consented to accept the position of Chaplain within our Riders organization.
His duties are to offer comfort and solace to our members in time of need.
Since the weather has been very hot lately, we should all go over Reverend T's home for beer comfort and solace for when the beer runs out .....ahem.
Reverend T is an ordained minister! Please contact him for any needs you may have including weddings.
His flyer will be posted shortly to introduce him to the membership.
Welcome aboard Reverend T!
